The Plano Police Association was originally chartered as a fraternal organization in 1978.  In 1986, the PPA was reorganized to expand its charter and mission.  The concerns of officers and civilian employees working and economic conditions became a priority.  The PPA set out to establish a positive dialogue with police administration and city officials.  Initially, the activism of the PPA was not well received, but calmer and more enlightened leaders eventually realized the benefit of a cooperative relationship with the PPA.  In 1987, the Plano Police Department offered one of the lowest patrol salaries of comparably sized cities in the DFW area.  Officers suffered with inferior and malfunctioning equipment, and morale vanished with recalcitrant police leadership.  Today, the Plano Police Department offers one of the highest salaries for police officers in the State of Texas and working conditions have considerably improved. Many economic and working issues remain, but dialogue has improved and is an ongoing process.  This occurred with a continuous and cooperative relationship with the leadership of the PPA and our appointed and elected leaders.

The Plano Police Association today has over 270 active members and continues to be a positive and influential voice for public safety employee concerns.  We are a fraternal, benevolent, and charitable organization that serves the needs of our members and our community.

Since 1998, the PPA has contributed over $52,000 for charitable and benevolent purposes.  The PPA conceived and sponsors the highly successful Christmas Cops campaign that collects toys, food, and funds for needy families identified by officers and other service organizations.  This program not only provides special gifts and meals to families during the holiday season, it provides emergency shelter for families not eligible for other shelters, cooling units for needy families with small children, and many other special needs that come to our attention; usually through officers on the streets.

The Plano Police Association is proud of its advocacy of employees and service to the community.  We appreciate you visiting our site and welcome your comments or questions.
